Early literacy fun that families can enjoy together at home!
Did you know color and shape recognition is an early form of letter knowledge? Encourage this by playing sorting games with your child. You can make a simple sorting game using an egg carton by painting each egg pocket a different color. Then sort small items like pom-poms into the different color groups. For an added challenge, have your child sort items into containers with small openings (like an empty water bottle) or encourage them to use tweezers or tongs.
If you and your child would like to be featured in a WNPL media post, please send a picture of you completing this activity to jhaydysch@wnpl.info. Be sure to include your names, date, and what you are doing. We would love to see your smiling faces!
