ICE SUNCATCHER
Let's create art using nature!
All you will need is a paper plate, yarn, water and items you can collect on a nature walk!
The next time you are on a winter walk, collect some interesting natural treasures -- twigs, berries, small pinecones, acorns, pine branches, etc. Hold onto your finds until the temperature outside is below freezing (32 degrees) and cold enough to turn water into ice. Arrange your treasures on the bottom of a deep paper plate. Next, drape string or yarn (about 20 inches) so the ends will become frozen in the water and the loop hangs off the plate. (You will use this loop to hang your ice suncatcher.) Fill a pitcher with water and carry that along with your paper plate outside (you can make two trips!). You will want to find a spot outside where your plate will not be disturbed. Gently fill the plate with water, careful not to disturb your nature design too much. And now . . . we wait. Depending on the weather, your sun ice suncatcher might freeze overnight or it might take longer. When it is frozen, pop- or peel off the paper plate and your ice suncatcher is ready to be hung on a tree branch. Time to admire your winter art!
